Are you creative? Do you have a creative outlet?

February 15, 2010 | 9:56 am

A friend asked me the other day what my creative outlet was, and I realized i don’t really have one. I mean, i love to write, but I don’t even blog that often. I love to cook, but i only cook creatively once in a while (the rest is just auto-pilot-gotta-fill-the-fridge-and-use-the-ingredients-i-just-bought). I love photography but don’t make time for it, even in the fabulous city i live in (it only seems to come out when i go on trips). I don’t paint or draw because i think i suck at it. i give speeches occasionally but struggle with the creative “finding a topic” part which reduces the number of speeches I do actually give.

So last week, this seed was planted and i couldn’t ignore it. Read the rest of this entry »

WordPress’ false advertising for those of us who can’t shut up

January 29, 2010 | 10:58 am

As you may have noticed, my posts are always rather lengthy. And i’m constantly being told to keep it short, that there’s more chance of readership with short and punchy posts. And that’s probably true.

But here’s the thing: it’s WordPress’ fault :) Seriously, as I type this new post, I’m working in a text box that is really wide, and so far, i’m only on my 2nd line of text. But when i’ll publish it, the column is much narrower and even this short post will be much longer than i think it is. So it’s false advertising. :D

OK, FINE, it’s not actually wordpress’ fault. It’s my screen’s fault for being so wide, it’s my template’s fault for being so narrow… yeah, yeah… it’s maybe it’s my fault too for being so chatty. Just felt like ranting.

But brings up an interesting question: are long posts really a bad thing? Do they turn you off? Or would you lap it up if the topic interested you? Give me your thoughts!

To be or not to be…

January 7, 2010 | 1:23 pm

…or rather, to bore you, or not to bore you… with my various states of mind, that it. The more silent I’ve been on my blog lately, the more “stuff” has actually been going around in my head. So the question is, do I bore you with this stuff, or not?

Well, let’s recall the original intention of a blog, yes? A blog is a web log. A log on the web. My diary, online. So, technically, I can say what I want, it doesn’t matter.

Aaah, but this online business, this Internet, it’s a slippery slope. See, the original intention is no longer. Because now that there is an online diary, well now, suddenly, there’s a potential online audience too. So the author is now under obligation to keep this audience happy, entertained, eager to return… technically. In my case, all 3.5 people in my audience :-)

My conclusion: those of you who’ve been perusing this blog all these years, I think you’ll indulge me some soul searching, yes? Thus you’ve been warned as to the nature of upcoming posts.

On a side note: since these introspective posts may become a staple of this blog, i’ve added a new category called “In a New York state of mind” (a reference to the song, to the city that I love and to the introspective mood that New York always puts me in).

Are computer viruses a thing of the past?

November 6, 2009 | 10:21 am

Living in North America, all i hear from local canadian news and US news is the number of H1N1 cases, and how the organization to get people vaccinated is terrible. Today, my mind wanders to another type of virus. Remember computer viruses? Remember receiving emails that had huge warnings about not reading this or that file? Remember news coverage on companies having all their computers crash. Remember the Y2K Read the rest of this entry »

About my state of mind

October 30, 2009 | 10:25 pm

Well, it’s been four months since my last post (to the day, how crazy is that?). And for a change, i’m not gonna apologize. Believe it or not, I haven’t visited my blog in a couple months, and so, the good news is, when i decided to visit it today, i remembered how much i loved it. Narcissistic? Maybe, but hey, if i’m not gonna show my blog some lovin’, why should i expect anyone else to?

I love my blog because it’s 100% reflective of me, it has just the right amount of info, and i find it visually very pleasing. So there! :p

In the meantime, i just went to a fabulous restaurant this evening, so i’ll prepare my review, and hopefully post it in the next couple days.
