Are computer viruses a thing of the past?
November 6, 2009 | 10:21 amLiving in North America, all i hear from local canadian news and US news is the number of H1N1 cases, and how the organization to get people vaccinated is terrible. Today, my mind wanders to another type of virus. Remember computer viruses? Remember receiving emails that had huge warnings about not reading this or that file? Remember news coverage on companies having all their computers crash. Remember the Y2K virus? Remember discussing which anti-virus software was the best, McAfee, Norton…
Is it just me, or do we not hear anything of those anymore? Are computer viruses a thing of the past? I can’t image that it’s because Microsoft and others have gotten so good at fighting them that nobody creates them anymore, can that really be the case? Or have “virus-creators” (also known as “people with too much time on their hands”) moved on to bigger and better things?
In my regular Vista updates, every second day, i quietly see “windows defender” updates. On my home laptop, I have AVG free running quietly in the background doing its thing. What are your experiences? Are computer viruses a thing of the past? Is there a new version of a computer virus, if so, what is it? Feel free to chime in about how your country is dealing with the H1N1 one crisis here too if you like, any virus discussion is good

Oddly we do think that people have gotten better at protecting their pc than their bodies. So computer viruses are down – H1N1 is up. It’s odd indeed.
